dabowm An absolutely perfect record in which every single word and note is there for a reason. When asked for a description I say 'Pink Moon', Derek Bailey, Webern. But there is no other record like it, therefore it is essential listening. I felt this way in 2007 (!) and I still stand by my estimation of sC in 2020 Favorite track: Carps.

about

Soccer Committee likes the act of endlessly zooming in on a particular sound and to follow its path to the point where it becomes totally inaudible. This attitude towards sound and music becomes clear when listening to one of Soccer Committee's extremely detailed songs, often driven by only a few notes, carefully placed against a backdrop of quiet colours.

Her songs are like little music boxes, each one bravely capturing moments or events that would normally escape one's attention. Weaving silence, guitar and vocals together in an immaculate celebration of colliding overtones soccer Committee found a voice that can truly be called her own.

This is the first record by Mariska Baars from Leiden, Holland. Since 2002, she has been writing and recording songs under the name Soccer Committee. Her first self-released cdr was very well received, which ao resulted in a spot on the prestigious Dwars-festival of the Dutch VPRO-radio.

The experience of her live-shows, in which she stripped her own songs even further, is clear on her cd-debut. Aart Schakenbos (Julie Mittens) managed to get the spaciousness of these songs on tape.
